SMART stands for Small to Medium Area Repair Technique — repairing just the damaged part of a panel instead of respraying the whole thing. We are a mobile smart car repair specialist covering the UK: scratches, scuffs, stone chips, kerbed bumpers and small dents, all put right where the car is parked.
Photos + reg → price back, usually same day
A traditional bodyshop works in whole panels. Scuff one corner of a bumper and the whole bumper comes off, gets flatted and gets resprayed — which is why it takes days and costs what it costs.
SMART repair works the other way round. We isolate the damaged area, rebuild it, spray only what needs spraying and then blend the new paint out into the existing finish so there is no edge to see. Same materials, same factory colour code, a fraction of the disruption. For cosmetic damage on a car that is otherwise straight, it is simply the more sensible way round.
Because the kit travels in the van, none of it needs to happen at a unit. We work on your driveway, at your workplace or wherever the car spends its day.
Paintwork and small dents, colour-matched to your car’s factory code and finished where the car stands.
Key scratches, bramble rash and surface marks flatted back, colour-matched and blended into the panel so the repair disappears rather than sitting as a patch.
Car-park scuffs, wall rubs and the grey transfer marks someone else’s door leaves down the side of yours.
Corners taken off on a kerb, a gatepost or a bollard — rebuilt, filled, resprayed and lacquered back to the original finish.
Bonnet, wing and bumper chipping from motorway miles, filled and touched in before the edges start to lift and rust.
Trolley dinks, car-park door dings and small dents — pushed back and refinished where the paint has been broken or creased.
Larger areas mixed to your car’s exact factory paint code, taken from the registration, then blended across the surrounding panels.
What we don’t take on: we’re a paintwork and small-dent specialist, so structural crash damage, panel replacement, rust treatment and alloy wheel refurbishment are outside what we do. If a repair isn’t right for a mobile visit, we’ll tell you straight rather than take the booking.
A bodyshop is the right answer for structural work — we will tell you when that is what your car needs. For cosmetic damage on a straight car, a mobile repair does the same job without taking the car off you.
| Aspect | Mobile SMART repair | Traditional bodyshop |
|---|---|---|
| Where the work happens | Your driveway, works car park or wherever the car is parked | A bodyshop unit — you drop the car off and collect it later |
| How long you lose the car | A few hours, usually within a single visit | Commonly two to five days |
| What gets painted | Only the damaged area, then blended into the panel | The full panel resprayed as standard |
| Courtesy car needed | No — the car never leaves you | Usually, or you arrange lifts around it |
| Insurance involved | Not normally — pay direct, so no excess and no claim on your record | Often claimed, with the excess payable |
| Best suited to | Scratches, scuffs, chips, kerbed bumpers and small dents | Structural damage, panel replacement and rust |
WhatsApp two or three photos of the damage plus your registration. The reg is what gives us the exact factory paint code for your car.
We price the damage in front of us rather than reading off a rate card, then send a clear figure over — usually the same day.
Home, work, wherever the car normally sits. All we need is somewhere reasonably level with a bit of room around the panel.
Prep, colour match, spray, lacquer and polish, done on site. Most cosmetic jobs are finished in a single visit.
We do not publish a price list, because a scratch on a flat door and the same scratch across a metallic bumper corner are not the same job. Three things move the number:
A scratch you can barely feel and one that has gone through to primer are two different jobs. Depth decides how much prep it needs and how many coats go back on.
A flat door skin is straightforward. A bumper corner, a curved wing, or damage that has to be blended across two panels takes longer to get right.
Solid colours match quickly. Pearls, three-stage whites and older faded metallics need more time in the mix before they disappear properly.
Our network of mobile technicians covers England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Tell us where the car is and we will send someone local to you.
Send your postcode with your photos and we will confirm who can reach you and when — if we cannot get to you, we will tell you straight.
Anything not covered here, send it over on WhatsApp — a straight answer costs nothing.
Small to Medium Area Repair Technique. It describes repairing just the damaged section of a panel and blending the new paint into the old, instead of stripping and respraying the entire panel. It is the standard approach for cosmetic damage — scratches, scuffs, chips, kerbed bumpers and small dents.
For cosmetic damage, yes — the paint is mixed to the same factory code and laid on with the same materials. The difference is how much of the car gets disturbed. What a smart repair is not designed for is structural damage, a panel that needs replacing, or rust that has taken hold underneath. That work belongs in a bodyshop, and we will say so if that is what your car needs.
We do paintwork and small dents. Trolley dinks, door dings and small creases where the paint has been broken are all part of the day job. Larger dents, sharp creases along a swage line, or anything that has moved the structure of the car is a bodyshop job rather than a mobile one.
Most cosmetic repairs are done in a single visit of a few hours, and the car stays with you the whole time. Bigger jobs, or several areas at once, can run longer — we will tell you what to expect when we send the estimate so you can plan the day around it.
There is no rate card, because no two bits of damage are the same. The price comes from the size and depth of the mark, the panel it sits on and how difficult the colour is to match. Send a couple of photos and your registration over WhatsApp and you will get a clear figure back, usually the same day, with no obligation.
Almost nobody does. Cosmetic repairs of this kind usually come in below a typical comprehensive excess, so paying direct works out cheaper and leaves nothing on your claims record. Worth comparing the estimate against your excess before you decide.
Two or three photos of the damage and your registration is all it takes. No obligation, no pushy follow-up — just a straight price, usually back the same day.
